More than 100 Calgary police and bylaw enforcement officers targeted the city’s downtown in a one-day operation focused on improving safety in priority areas. The initiative, named Operation Order, involved redeploying officers from other parts of Calgary to intensify enforcement efforts.
The operation aimed to enhance public safety through strategic patrols, focused enforcement, community outreach, and referrals to support services. Officers patrolled key downtown locations enforcing bylaws and criminal laws related to drug use, possession, trafficking, and violence.
Alongside law enforcement, community safety and transit peace officers worked to connect vulnerable individuals with support services, aiming to address underlying social issues.
“Enhance public safety in priority areas downtown through strategic patrols, focused enforcement, community outreach and referrals to support services,” the city stated in its news release.
