Miss Universe 2025: Nawat Itsaragrisil Addresses Tension

The 2025 Miss Universe pageant, held in Thailand, has been overshadowed by intense tension. Nawat Itsaragrisil, vice president for Asia and Oceania within the Miss Universe Organisation (MUO) and head of the local organising committee, issued an apology to the contestants during the Live Opening Ceremony on November 5.

“Everybody knows the past few days have been a lot of pressure. I think you must understand that the pressure is a lot. But I have not intended to harm anyone,” said Nawat.

He continued to express his respect and regret:

“I respect all of you. But I have to say that I am so sorry that it happened. I want to offer this opportunity to apologise to the delegates if anyone was not comfortable with what happened. I’m sorry.”

Nawat also apologized to fans worldwide:

“I am sorry for the Miss Universe fans around the world.”

Incident with Miss Universe Mexico

On November 4, Nawat faced criticism after publicly shaming Miss Universe Mexico, Fatima Bosch, during a live broadcast. This incident led reigning Miss Universe, Victoria Kjær Theilvig, along with several other contestants, to walk out in solidarity with Miss Mexico.

Organizational Response

The Miss Universe Organisation reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the host community, the Miss Grand International Organization (MGI), and all local partners to ensure the pageant's continued success.

“We are dedicated to collaborating with all stakeholders to maintain the event’s integrity and success,” stated the MUO.
