Dozens of Calgary police officers, transit peace officers, and social agency workers descended on the city's downtown core on Wednesday as part of a major enforcement effort.
Calgary Police Chief Katie McLellan, addressing a group of officers and partners, stated firmly,
“Enough is enough.”This marked her first major public initiative since assuming office earlier in 2025.
“Operation Order” is a comprehensive crackdown focusing on crime and social disorder in key downtown areas including East Village, Stephen Avenue, and Century Gardens. The effort is part of the larger Safer Calgary initiative.
One early fine was issued to Grant Robinson, who was ticketed $120 for discarding a cigarette butt. He said,
“This is gonna stop me from probably another month because I have to pay it. I won’t be able to save money because I have to give the government money.”
Officers worked alongside transit peace officers and social agencies to enforce laws, issue citations, and connect vulnerable individuals to support services. Reporters observed patrols extending into back alleys and transit platforms throughout the operation.
Summary: Calgary's comprehensive enforcement blitz led by Chief McLellan is a decisive move to curb downtown crime while linking vulnerable populations to needed support services.
