Andrew Cuomo Defends Campaigning in White Ford Bronco

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo explained his decision to campaign for mayor in a white Ford Bronco, stressing that the choice had no connection to the late O.J. Simpson. He referred to the vehicle as his “good luck truck” and shared a video on Instagram addressing public confusion over his choice of car.

Cuomo’s comments came just before Election Day in New York City, where he is running as an independent candidate against Democratic Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa. The race has drawn national interest due to Cuomo’s independent status and his unconventional campaign image.

The white Ford Bronco gained lasting notoriety in June 1994 when O.J. Simpson used one to lead police on a two-hour chase across Southern California, shortly after being charged in the deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. Simpson, who was later acquitted in his murder trial, died in 2024 at the age of 76 following a cancer diagnosis.

“After a brief speech and some handshakes and selfies, Cuomo ignored my questions and got in the white Ford Bronco to be driven to the next stop in Washington Heights,” wrote Politico reporter Jeff Coltin on X, alongside a video of the incident.

Newsweek reached out to Cuomo’s representatives outside normal business hours for additional comments via email.
