Learner Tien and Lorenzo Sonego Advance in Metz

American teenager Learner Tien continued his outstanding season on Monday at the Moselle Open, defeating French wild card Ugo Blanchet 6-3, 6-3 to reach the second round.

The 19-year-old, who will compete at the Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF next month, has now recorded 28 tour-level victories in 2025, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. Last month, he reached the final in Beijing and progressed to the fourth round of the Shanghai Masters. Tien will next face lucky loser Moez Echargui.

Former Metz champion Lorenzo Sonego also moved forward, battling past British qualifier Jan Choinski 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Sonego fired 11 aces in their first Lexus ATP Head2Head encounter and will next play fourth seed Flavio Cobolli. His top result this year was a quarter-final appearance at the Australian Open.

French qualifier Clement Tabur celebrated his first tour-level victory by defeating Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-3, 6-2. Meanwhile, Matteo Berrettini secured a 6-2, 6-4 win over Quentin Halys to progress to the second round. He will meet either Frenchman Corentin Moutet or Aleksandar Vukic in his next match.

Last week, Cameron Norrie defeated Carlos Alcaraz in Paris and will open against Arthur Cazaux in Metz.
