On Monday, Craig Melvin shared an unexpected on-air admission while co-hosting the fourth hour of the Today show with Jenna Bush Hager. It was Craig's debut at the Jenna & Friends desk, a segment that has featured multiple celebrity guest hosts since Hoda Kotb departed in January to focus on her young daughters.
Craig Melvin, who replaced Hoda in the first two hours of Today, revealed to Jenna that despite his long tenure on the show, he had never actually watched Jenna & Friends. Taking his seat, he commented,
"This is a nice set. You know, I've never seen the show."
Jenna responded with playful surprise, saying, "That is so rude!" Craig explained that he rarely had the opportunity since he was usually wrapping up the third hour when Jenna & Friends began.
"Did you just hear him say he's never watched the show?"
"No, because I'm usually in transit, but this is nice."
"Here's the thing about it. It's a full hour."
"I know, I could probably watch some of it."
On the same day, Craig co-hosted the first two hours of Today with Savannah Guthrie, then moved on to the third hour alongside Sheinelle Jones, Al Roker, and Dylan Dreyer, before joining Jenna for the final hour.
He also praised Jenna for managing the show since Hoda's departure, recognizing her efforts with a constantly changing roster of guest hosts.
“Jenna & Friends has seen a revolving door of guest hosts since Hoda left in January,” Craig noted during the segment.
Craig Melvin surprised many by confessing on-air that he'd never watched Jenna & Friends, despite hosting multiple Today show hours and praising Jenna’s handling of the show’s evolving lineup.
