Manchester United remain unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches but managed only a draw against Nottingham Forest, as striker Benjamin Sesko faced challenges on the pitch this weekend.
Since his £74 million transfer from RB Leipzig, Sesko has scored two goals and provided one assist in ten Premier League appearances. Manager Ruben Amorim appears to be taking a cautious approach to integrating the 22-year-old striker into the team.
Before the international break, Sesko showed encouraging signs with goals against Brentford and Sunderland but struggled again in the recent match versus Nottingham Forest.
“I'm no further forward with him. The jury is out,” Neville said on NBC Sports after the Forest draw.
“He's well off it compared to the other summer signings that Man United made up front in [Matheus] Cunha and [Bryan] Mbeumo.”
“He looks awkward, he had a couple of really good opportunities in the first half - when balls got played over the top and his touch wasn't quite right. For £80 million, you can say he's young, or has a lot of potential and he's only just settling in, but you still want to see a bit more.”
On The Rest is Football podcast, Gary Lineker echoed Neville’s sentiment, noting that Cunha and Mbeumo have adapted better to Amorim’s tactics while Sesko has yet to fully demonstrate his potential.
“I would say they are slightly better. I think they are moving in the right direction,” Lineker observed.
While Sesko shows promise, both experts agree that his adaptation at Manchester United is still in progress compared to other recent summer signings.
Author's note: Sesko’s start at Manchester United shows promise but remains cautious, as experts highlight the need for continued development and consistency.
