Where I come from, the mention of a country ending in “-stan” often evokes images of conflict, poverty, and underdevelopment. Yet, through my travels, I’ve learned how inaccurate those assumptions can be.
My connection to Kazakhstan began by coincidence, when I met a Kazakh woman in northeastern Europe. At that time, I knew almost nothing about her homeland — not its geographical location, its flag, or its traditions. That conversation, however, ignited a curiosity that months later led me toward one of the most remarkable journeys of my life.
By the age of 24, I had already visited 45 countries as a student, worker, and travel coordinator for remote destinations. Despite my extensive experience, Kazakhstan exceeded my expectations in unique ways. When I landed in Almaty at night, carrying only a backpack and without internet access, I stepped into a quiet airport under calm skies — unaware that I was about to explore a country unlike any other.
