The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Roadrunners are marking their 15th football season in 2025. As a relatively new FBS program now in its third year in the American Athletic Conference, UTSA began its program from the ground up. After a practice year in 2010, the Roadrunners completed their first season as an FCS Independent in 2011 before joining the Western Athletic Conference in 2012.
UTSA transitioned to Conference USA in 2013 and became a full FBS member starting with the 2014 season. In 2011, they set NCAA modern startup records by attracting 56,743 fans to their inaugural game against Northeastern State and averaging 35,521 fans across six home games that year.
The Roadrunners reached their first postseason in 2016 at the New Mexico Bowl during their sixth year. The following year, they secured their first victory over a Big 12 team by defeating Baylor 17-10. In 2021, UTSA made history by opening the season with a road win over Illinois from the Big Ten. They claimed their first conference title with a 49-42 victory against WKU, finishing the year 12-2 with their third bowl game appearance.
UTSA repeated as league champions in 2022 after a 48-27 win over North Texas and reached their third consecutive bowl game, ending the season with an 11-3 record.
UTSA will face South Florida in their second consecutive Thursday night game.
