Recent polling indicates that Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett may have an early advantage in the competitive Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by John Cornyn.
Sources tell FOX 4 News in Dallas that Crockett is seriously contemplating a run for the Senate. Statewide polls place her ahead of former U.S. Representatives James Talirico and others in the Democratic primary.
On the Republican side, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton holds a narrow lead over incumbent Senator John Cornyn for the nomination.
In mid-October, Crockett told FOX News she would make a final decision after court rulings on the new congressional district maps and further review of polling data. She expressed uncertainty, awaiting the outcome of these legal decisions.
The redistricting efforts aim to add five new Republican seats in the U.S. House and could alter Crockett’s current district boundaries if the courts rule in favor of the new maps.
"I'm still waiting for a final ruling on the new Texas Congressional District maps," Crockett said in the FOX News interview.
Jasmine Crockett's current congressional district is documented on congress.gov. The ongoing political developments have significant implications for both major parties in Texas.
