KINGSTON, Jamaica — Following the widespread damage from Hurricane Melissa, Scotiabank announced a financial commitment to aid relief and recovery across the island. The Scotiabank Foundation is providing CAD$400,000 (about J$48 million) to support rebuilding efforts.
Additionally, the foundation will contribute J$100 million to bolster Jamaica’s recovery and economic resilience. These funds will be allocated to trusted organizations delivering essential aid to affected families and communities.
Beyond financial support, Scotia Group staff are organizing care package donations valued near J$12 million for impacted areas. The bank also pledged to match staff donations up to CAD$50,000 (J$6 million).
Altogether, Scotiabank’s initial support for the national recovery totals approximately J$165 million.
Audrey Tugwell Henry, President and CEO of Scotia Group Jamaica, expressed her concern: “The devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa has been immense, with many of our clients, employees, and communities facing significant losses.”
