Elder Gérald Caussé Is Called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Elder Gérald Caussé has been appointed as the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His calling and ordination took place on Thursday, November 6, 2025, under the direction of President Dallin H. Oaks along with members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ,” Elder Caussé said. “He’s always been at the center of my life. I know He is our Savior and Redeemer. It’s a great blessing to be a witness of Christ — perhaps the greatest responsibility one can have in life.”

The Apostles serve as special witnesses of Jesus Christ throughout the world. They also carry key administrative duties, guiding the Church’s operations and supporting its global development. The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles serves under the direction of the First Presidency — the governing body composed of the Church President and two counselors.

Elder Caussé, age 62, is originally from Bordeaux, France. Before this appointment, he had served eleven years as the Church’s Presiding Bishop. Notably, he was the third Presiding Bishop born outside the United States and the first whose native language was not English. The Presiding Bishopric oversees programs such as humanitarian and welfare efforts, tithing and fast offerings, physical facilities, and the organization of membership records.
