New Mormon apostle led a global temple building boom and has deep knowledge of church finances

New Mormon Apostle with Deep Financial Expertise and Global Temple Vision

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gérald Caussé, a senior leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was appointed Thursday as the faith’s newest apostle. Known for his close understanding of the church’s extensive finances, he previously directed its worldwide temple expansion and welfare programs.

At 62, Caussé becomes a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, an all-male governing council directly beneath the church president and his two counselors. The apostles oversee policy decisions and the church’s various business operations, and their seniority determines succession to the presidency.

A native of France, Caussé spent the last decade serving as presiding bishop, managing the church’s finances and humanitarian efforts. During his tenure, the church accelerated charitable spending and constructed numerous temples across the world, spaces central to its sacred ceremonies.

Although the church does not publicly disclose its overall financial details, filings from its investment arm, Ensign Peak Advisors Inc., recently listed portfolio assets valued at 58 billion dollars. The church’s holdings extend into real estate, agriculture, publishing, life insurance, non-profit work, education, and a cultural center in Hawaii, along with a luxury open-air mall in Salt Lake City.

“Under his leadership, the church increased humanitarian spending and dotted the globe with lavish temples where the faith’s most sacred ceremonies take place.”

Summary

Gérald Caussé, a French-born church leader recognized for overseeing a global temple surge and financial stewardship, has been named the newest apostle in the LDS Church.
