Brian Keeling, a dedicated volunteer at the Museum of the Highwood, passed away at the age of 93. His contributions to the community and the museum were deeply valued and will be missed.

Volunteering Journey and Impact

Keeling began volunteering at the museum in 2011, committing to three mornings each week. Over the years, he meticulously catalogued more than 29,000 items.

Challenges Faced by the Museum

Irene Kerr, a close friend of Keeling and the museum’s director and curator for 17 years, shared some of the hardships they endured:

“We went through a lot at the museum. We had a fire in 2010 and a flood in 2013.”

Following these events, many artifacts and photographs were at risk as they were not fully backed up. Keeling’s work was crucial for the museum’s recovery and preservation efforts.

“Brian was a fixture at the museum,”
Kerr said, emphasizing his importance to the institution and the community.

His dedication and tireless efforts helped safeguard the museum’s collection during difficult times, ensuring its continued legacy.
