Fog Turns to Snowfall in Calgary

Calgary residents started their Friday with dense fog that soon shifted into steady snowfall. While the morning looked wintry, forecasts suggest the snow won't stay for long.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), visibility was greatly reduced early in the morning, prompting a fog advisory. The agency also cautioned that rain, snow, or even freezing rain could occur as conditions changed.

Morning Weather Transition

Snow began falling in downtown Calgary around 8:30 a.m., moving southward from the northern parts of the city. The shift from fog to snow surprised some commuters, though forecasters said it was in line with early predictions.

“Precipitation was in the forecast for the morning hours, but our temperature stayed just cool enough to keep most of that mix as snow. Once it’s gone, it’s pretty much gone, and as we enter the 9 o’clock hour, we can expect most of that to fully back away,” explained Kevin Stanfield, meteorologist for 660 NewsRadio.
“Our high today hits 3°C, so any area that caught a new coat will likely see that melt off too.”

Safety Advisory for Commuters

Drivers are reminded to stay cautious as the roads may remain slick during the transition period. Updated traffic and weather information can be found through 660 NewsRadio or CityNews 24/7 throughout the day.
