A retired STARS air ambulance helicopter has been relocated to The Hangar Flight Museum in Calgary. The Airbus BK117 aircraft, which began service in 1985, was among the original fleet that helped establish the non-profit air ambulance organization.
The helicopter played a crucial role in missions throughout Western Canada before retiring from active duty.
“Now, in our 40th year, this historic aircraft stands as a symbol of the remarkable contributions made by the community, for the community,” said STARS.
More than 100 donors contributed to a fundraising campaign that raised over $900,000 for STARS operations. Their names are proudly displayed on the helicopter as a tribute.
The Hangar Flight Museum expressed honour in becoming the helicopter’s permanent home, describing it as “an inspiring legacy” that will help keep STARS’ story alive for future generations.
