Fresh information has surfaced regarding the Boxing Day altercation that led to legal charges against AFL players Dion Prestia and Steven May.
Reports by News Corp suggest that tensions first arose at the Sorrento Hotel when a member of a group, which included Prestia and May, allegedly approached a local woman. Friends of the woman intervened, prompting security to step in after a heated exchange between the two groups.
Later that night, the same parties reportedly encountered each other again at the Continental Hotel on Point Nepean Road. Witnesses said verbal disputes reignited, escalating into a physical confrontation outside the venue in the early hours of December 27, 2024.
Following a review by the Office of Public Prosecutions, both players, aged 33, were formally charged last week. However, they have both rejected claims of participation in the fight.
Richmond player Dion Prestia, seen with his partner Brooke Bailey, stated he was not at the scene and is challenging the accusations. Melbourne Demons' Steven May, pictured with his family, has also denied any involvement.
