Former NFL player Antonio Brown has returned to the United States to face trial for a shooting incident in Miami that happened nearly six months ago.
Brown, 37, was extradited from Dubai and taken into custody at Newark Airport in Essex County, New Jersey. Authorities plan to transfer him to South Florida, though the exact timing remains undisclosed.
The arrest warrant for Brown was issued in June. At that time, police believed he was abroad but did not specify his location. Brown hired an attorney who secured a $10,000 bond including house arrest conditions; however, Brown did not return to South Florida.
Authorities noted that Brown posted photos and videos from Dubai, some mocking the Miami charges against him. Marshals eventually traveled overseas to bring him back to the United States.
The shooting occurred around 3 a.m. on May 17 near 221 NE 67th St. Police responded after an alert from the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system. No arrests were made at the scene, no injuries were reported, and officers questioned several individuals present.
