Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown was extradited to Miami to face an attempted murder charge related to a shooting outside a celebrity boxing event in May, officials confirmed.
Miami Police confirmed on Thursday that the 37-year-old Brown was brought from Dubai to Miami via Newark, New Jersey. A U.S. Marshals Service public affairs officer stated Brown arrived earlier that day and was booked into the Essex County Jail in New Jersey.
While Brown was evading authorities, Miami Police noted he posted videos from Dubai, seemingly taunting law enforcement.
“He was kind of taunting us, saying, I'm safe here, and that's what we interpreted from those videos, but you know what, he was laughing then, we're getting the last laugh,” said Officer Michael Vega.
“No matter who you are, what power or what money you have, if you commit a crime in the city of Miami, we're going to identify and locate you and bring you to justice.”
An arrest warrant was issued in June charging Brown with attempted murder with a firearm for the May 16 shooting near Northeast 2nd Avenue and 67th Street.
According to the warrant, an off-duty officer working event security left after hearing gunfire and witnessed Brown involved in a physical altercation with another individual in the parking lot.
Antonio Brown has been extradited from Dubai to face attempted murder charges stemming from a May shooting outside a Miami celebrity boxing event, with police committed to ensuring justice regardless of status.
