Edgar Wright Says He’s Still On A “Cape Break” 12 Years After Leaving ‘Ant-Man’ & Once Considered A Choose Your Own Adventure Cut Of ‘Shaun Of The Dead’

Edgar Wright Reflects on Leaving Marvel’s "Ant-Man"

Edgar Wright says he has no regrets about stepping away from Marvel's Ant-Man, a decision he made well before the superhero genre fully took hold. Speaking on The Playlist’s Discourse Podcast about his upcoming film, The Running Man, Wright shared his thoughts on leaving the project and his continued distance from superhero movies.

Wright’s Perspective on the Marvel Departure

“You’re not still losing sleep over that, are you?” Wright quipped playfully about the Marvel project. “I didn’t regret my decision to leave at all. I had started working on that film long before even Iron Man came out. By the time it came around, they had established the brand, the continuity, and even a certain way of making a movie. So the chance to do something really different was going away.”

Since his departure, Wright has purposely avoided the superhero genre, choosing instead to explore other creative avenues.

Unrealized "Shaun of the Dead" Concept

Wright also revealed an intriguing, never-produced idea for a sequel to Shaun of the Dead. He imagined it as an interactive “choose your own adventure” experience, rethinking the zombie comedy in a way that would allow audiences to influence the story's direction.
