An interstate team of contract killers is being pursued over the suspected murder of a known Melbourne underworld figure. The investigation has intensified following the death of 21-year-old Athan Boursinos.
Boursinos was reportedly heading to court when he was ambushed and killed on July 31 in Game Lane, Wollert, in Melbourne’s outer north. Authorities believe the attack was carefully planned and professionally executed.
Victoria Police released CCTV footage showing two men they seek to interview in connection with the incident.
“It is not suggested that the men are in any way involved in the killing of Boursinos, only that police wish to speak to them.”
In the footage, both men are dressed entirely in black. One wears a sweatshirt bearing the image of Tupac Shakur, while the other is seen in a Nike cap and sneakers.
Boursinos had previously been tied to the gangland execution of Sam “The Punisher” Abdulrahim, a well-known kickboxer and figure in Melbourne’s criminal circles. According to underworld sources, Boursinos may have been the getaway driver in the attack on Abdulrahim, which occurred on January 28 in the underground car park of the Quest Hotel in Preston.
Abdulrahim was fatally shot by a group of assassins while exiting his vehicle. The killing sent shockwaves through Melbourne’s northern suburbs and sparked renewed tensions in the city’s criminal underworld.
Boursinos’ death, just months later, has fueled speculation about possible retaliation within rival networks. Police continue to explore links between the murders as they attempt to dismantle what appears to be an interstate execution team.
