Bluesky is introducing a new private dislike button designed to improve how content is recommended across its platform. The feature allows users to mark posts they find less relevant, particularly affecting what appears in the Discover tab.
According to Bluesky, the dislike option acts as a feedback signal that helps the recommendation system reduce exposure to unwanted content while fine-tuning personalization in user feeds.
"The option provides insight into types of posts to deprioritize,"
The update also influences reply visibility. By downranking low-quality responses, the system promotes higher-quality interactions and maintains cleaner discussion threads.
Privacy remains a cornerstone of the new feature. Dislikes are completely private—neither other users nor authors can see what has been disliked or how many dislikes a post has received.
Bluesky tests a private dislike system to refine user feeds by reducing unwanted content, improving discussion quality, and maintaining strong privacy standards.
