Bluesky, a microblogging platform competing with platform X, has started testing a dislike button on posts. The feature aims to refine personalization in the Discover and general feeds.
When users mark a post as disliked, the system learns to identify content types they prefer to avoid. This helps Bluesky adjust content ranking and prioritize relevant replies within the feed.
"This feature was released to improve personalization in the Discover feed and other feeds."
The introduction of the dislike button follows criticism of Bluesky’s recent moderation choices. Users have called for stronger measures against harmful or controversial accounts. Despite these demands, the platform maintains its decentralized identity, allowing users more autonomy in shaping their experiences.
For moderation, Bluesky offers several tools such as content filters, muted words, and separation of citation posts to manage unwanted interactions and spotlight relevance.
Alongside this, Bluesky is testing a new system that maps user social networks. It prioritizes replies from accounts that interact frequently or are socially closer to the user. The platform also claims improvements in identifying toxic or spam replies and non-topic responses, which will now appear lower in threads and search results.
"Users will also get a modified Reply button."
Bluesky experiments with a dislike button to strengthen personalization, refine moderation tools, and empower users with greater control in a decentralized social environment.
