The Moto2 Portuguese Grand Prix practice session has concluded, revealing the initial riders qualified for Q2. Although the MotoGP and Moto3 titles are settled, the Moto2 championship battle remains fiercely competitive.
Manuel Gonzalez and Diogo Moreira are locked in a tense fight for the Moto2 world title. Entering the Portugal race, Moreira leads the standings by nine points over Gonzalez, presenting him with the first chance to secure the championship. He must finish with at least a 26-point lead over Gonzalez in Portimão to clinch the title.
Barry Baltus remains a dark horse in the championship, trailing the leader by 35 points. The Belgian rider could capitalize on any mistakes by his rivals to stay in title contention heading into the final round in Valencia.
Aron Canet continued his strong form from the morning session by clocking a top time of 1:41.210, placing him ahead of Jake Dixon and Albert Arenas. The session was critical as only the fastest 14 riders advanced to Q2, making it essential for championship leaders to secure their spots early.
At the start of the session, Manuel Gonzalez posted the provisional 5th fastest time, while Diogo Moreira was risky at 14th place halfway through. Moreira remained in a safe position but still vulnerable to improvements by other riders.
The Brazilian was then safe but still in danger.
The Moto2 Portuguese practice emphasized the tight title race, with Moreira holding a narrow lead and Canet showcasing impressive pace ahead of the crucial Q2 qualification.
