Top Lieutenant of Gangster Gaja Marne, Sunil Bansode, Arrested After 4 Years on the Run

Sunil Bansode, a senior henchman of gang leader Gajanan alias Gaja Marne, was arrested by Pune City police late Tuesday after evading capture for four years. He had been booked under the stringent Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (MPDA) in 2021.

Bansode’s arrest follows the capture of Rupesh Marne, another of Gaja Marne’s key associates, who was arrested on October 27 from Mulshi. Rupesh, 41, had been on the run for eight months and was linked to the attack on IT engineer and Murlidhar Mohol supporter Devendra Jog in February this year.

The police from Zone 3 apprehended Bansode in the Warje area of Pune, acting on intelligence about his movements. The arrest took place during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.

“So now both his henchmen and sharpshooters, Rupesh Marne and Bansode, are behind bars,” said Sambhaji Kadam, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 3.

Gajanan Marne, currently imprisoned, faces almost 30 serious criminal charges. He gained public attention in February 2021 when a rally of luxury cars paraded on the Mumbai Expressway in his support after his release from Taloja Prison.
