Hollywood icon Lucy Liu was honoured at the Belfast Film Festival, receiving the prestigious Réalta Award for her latest film Rosemead. This award recognises actors and filmmakers who use their craft to benefit society.
Attending the festival in Northern Ireland’s capital, Liu spoke warmly about the local people, describing them as “warm and welcoming.” During her visit, she enjoyed traditional foods such as soda bread and potato bread, though she chose not to try black pudding.
“It’s just an honour to be here and to celebrate all of the art and the culture the festival has brought to the community,” Liu told BBC News NI.
In 2023, Liu spent a month in Northern Ireland filming the action comedy Old Guy. She reflected positively on the experience, citing it as “a great working experience” where she made “really lovely friends.”
Rosemead had its Irish premiere at the festival. The film centers on the emotional story of a terminally ill mother and her schizophrenic teenage son. Liu not only starred in the film but also took on the role of producer, which she says strengthened her connection to storytelling.
Summary: Lucy Liu’s recognition at Belfast highlights her commitment to meaningful storytelling and her appreciation for Northern Ireland’s culture and hospitality.
