The Allan Labor Government is supporting a leading UK sports technology firm to set up its Asia Pacific headquarters in Victoria. This move brings advanced technology to AFLW and enhances Victoria's reputation as Australia’s sporting capital.
Minister for Economic Growth and Jobs Danny Pearson visited Sportable's new headquarters and Centre of Excellence in Collingwood. The facility will create up to 20 specialist roles in software development, hardware engineering, and client delivery.
Sportable's Smart Ball technology delivers real-time data on ball movement during games, improving fan engagement and ensuring accuracy in scoring and line calls. After launching its Smart Rugby Ball in England, France, and Australia, Sportable collaborated with the AFL to develop the Smart Sherrin.
The Smart Sherrin was introduced in the 2024 NAB AFLW season, assisting in over 2,000 score reviews during the 2025 season.
The Collingwood Centre of Excellence now serves as the global headquarters for Sportable’s visualisation division. It leverages Victoria’s world-class talent to create officiating systems, high-performance assessment tools, and engaging fan content for sports worldwide.
