Environment Canada has issued a snow squall watch for Sarnia, Petrolia, and Lambton County. Snow squalls may occur from late Sunday night through Tuesday morning, with heavy lake-effect snow predicted to bring 15 to 30 cm, and potentially more in some areas.
“Prepare for the possibility of quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,”
the agency warned.
A weather statement noted that snowfall of two to five centimeters is likely on Sunday, continuing into the evening. This could create hazardous travel conditions and reduce visibility to near zero at times.
Sgt. Ed Sanchuk of the West Region OPP posted on social media:
“The snow is falling and so should your speed.”
With the season’s first snowfall, the OPP urged residents to drive cautiously, allow extra time to stop, and maintain greater distance between vehicles. Drivers were also advised to clear snow and ice from their vehicles before driving and to remain alert and patient on the road.
Sanchuk emphasized the importance of daytime headlights, saying,
“You want to be visible.”
The West Region OPP stated,
“Arriving safely is what matters most.”
Environment Canada expects lake-effect snow to impact Lambton Sunday evening and possibly areas near the eastern shore of Lake Huron by Monday morning. Snow squalls may also affect regions toward Lake Erie.
