Tiger Woods is widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers in history, but British golf legend Luke Donald has identified Rory McIlroy as the most naturally talented player he has competed against on the PGA Tour, even above Woods.
Luke Donald, age 47, began his PGA Tour career in 2002 and frequently faced Tiger Woods during Woods' peak years. Woods, a 15-time major winner, dominated early 2000s golf, showcasing his unparalleled skill and achieving numerous championship victories.
McIlroy turned professional in 2007 and quickly earned respect with his impressive ability. Alongside Woods, McIlroy is also a co-founder of Tomorrow’s Golf League (TGL), furthering their professional partnership.
"I've always said that of the guys I've played with out here on Tour, Rory has the most talent," Donald said in 2011 before the DP World Tour Championship. "He's young, he's got a great future ahead of him, and I see him winning lots of tournaments and lots of majors."
Donald’s comments reflect his belief in McIlroy's potential to achieve significant success, emphasizing raw talent over decades of experience and accolades.
His view challenges the common narrative that places Tiger Woods as the undisputed greatest golfer, suggesting that pure talent can be seen differently by those who have interacted closely with top players.
