NBC’s new comedy Stumble debuts Friday night, following the story of Courteney Potter, a once-celebrated cheer coach portrayed by Jenn Lyon. The mockumentary-style show combines heartfelt drama with offbeat humor, exploring themes of resilience and redemption in the world of competitive cheerleading.
After being dismissed from Sammy Davis Sr. Junior College over a party scandal, Courteney finds herself coaching at the much smaller Headltston State Junior College. Her cheer program is nearly non-existent, with only one active member: Madonna, a cheerleader known for falling asleep mid-performance.
“When I look at this team, I see grit, determination, heart. That’s what people want to be a part of.”
The show draws inspiration from Netflix’s hit documentary Cheer, which made competitive cheerleading a mainstream phenomenon. Monica Aldama, the documentary’s central figure, serves as an executive producer. Co-starring Taran Killam as Courteney’s husband, Stumble blends heart, chaos, and humor in equal measure.
A spirited mockumentary where a disgraced coach rebuilds her career with a team of lovable misfits, turning failure into comedic triumph.
