Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has stated that relations between China and the United Kingdom are at a critical point, where they must either move forward or decline amid ongoing global uncertainty.
This assessment was made during a phone conversation between Wang Yi and the new UK Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, where they discussed the future path of Sino-British relations.
According to China's state-run Xinhua news agency, Wang emphasized that "both sides should enhance strategic communication and promote the sustainable development of bilateral relations along a healthy, mutually beneficial, and stable track."
Wang highlighted the significant roles both countries have in maintaining global peace and stability, reaffirming China's commitment to United Nations principles and respect for national sovereignty.
He also acknowledged that disagreements between London and Beijing are inevitable but can be managed through greater mutual understanding.
