Boy, 8, Maimed in Gaza Describes Ordeal as Yvette Cooper Makes Hospital Plea

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper visited young patients who had been evacuated from Gaza for urgent medical treatment, pledging to cooperate with allies to rebuild Gaza's healthcare system.

Mohammed’s Story

Mohammed, 8, lost his leg after an explosion near his home in Khan Younis four months ago. He was first treated at a Jordanian field hospital in Gaza before being flown to Amman for further care, where doctors fitted him with a prosthetic limb.

After three months of rehabilitation, Mohammed can now walk, run, and climb stairs again. His passion for football kept him motivated throughout his recovery.

Yvette Cooper told him: "You're very brave."

Mohammed shared his dream of becoming a policeman like his father, Akram, to "catch all the burglars and the bad guys."

Ms Cooper responded: "I think you will make a very good policeman. No one is stealing anything near you."

He now continues his studies online, focusing on English, Arabic, and Maths, while also following his favorite football club, Real Madrid.

Other Patients

Ms Cooper also met sisters Sarraa, 17, and Sara, 15, who were gravely injured when a bomb struck their home in December 2024. The two were trapped under rubble for over an hour before being rescued.
