Mike Shinoda addressed fan reactions to Emily Armstrong as the new vocalist for Linkin Park's comeback, emphasizing a key principle behind their choice.
"They can do that in their band. I don't want it to be our band."
He praised the largely positive response from fans and made it clear that he never wanted to reunite the band with someone who would imitate Chester Bennington. Shinoda explained that while Chester's impact and uniqueness are irreplaceable, Emily Armstrong honors his legacy by being herself rather than copying him.
During an interview with Recitales en Argentina, Shinoda elaborated on this view:
"She works really hard, and she does a great job on these songs. I think the most important thing is that she doesn't try to imitate Chester. I think that if we were to be on stage with somebody who was pretending to be him, it would be so fucking weird. I'm fine with people who do that. There are cover bands and stuff. I don't have a problem with them at all. I just don't want that to be our band. They can do that in their band."
This approach allows Linkin Park to move forward respectfully while maintaining their authenticity.
Mike Shinoda highlights Linkin Park's commitment to authenticity in their reunion, valuing Emily Armstrong's unique tribute over imitation of Chester Bennington.
