A woman and a child tragically died after falling into a waterway in southeast Melbourne. The incident occurred at Dandenong Creek, near Allan Street in Dandenong, around 3:45 pm on Monday.
Police believe the mother struggled in the water while trying to save the child. Emergency services arrived quickly and found both unconscious. Despite performing CPR, they could not be revived and were declared dead at the scene.
Neither the woman nor the child has been formally identified at this time. Police are preparing a report for the coroner to further investigate the circumstances.
