Police confirmed that a woman and a child drowned this afternoon, 10 November, after falling into Dandenong Creek near Allan Street around 3:45 p.m.
According to authorities, a witness saw the pair swept away by the current. It is believed the woman entered the creek trying to rescue the child but also became trapped in the fast-moving water.
“A woman and child have drowned after falling into Dandenong Creek this afternoon,” police stated.
Officers searched the area and located the unconscious victims, pulled them from the water, and performed CPR. Despite their efforts, both were declared dead at the scene.
Police have not yet identified the victims and will prepare a report for the coroner.
