BBC Radio 2 presenter Sara Cox has embarked on a demanding 135-mile journey through County Durham to support Children In Need. The challenge, called the "Great Northern Marathon Challenge," requires her to complete five marathons in five days across four counties.
Sara Cox’s route takes her on foot through the varied landscapes of Durham, North Yorkshire, Northumberland, and West Yorkshire. Starting from Kielder Forest on November 10, she will finish in Pudsey, Leeds, on November 14, all while carrying a Pudsey Bear backpack to symbolize the cause.
"When they picked me to get Pudsey to Pudsey, I was honoured and horrified in equal measure. We’re talking 135 miles of hills, moors and blisters – but I am ready for the challenge, and I will absolutely be giving it everything I’ve got."
Sara Cox, who hosts Radio 2’s weekday teatime show, expresses confidence that listeners’ encouragement will inspire her throughout the journey.
"I know the brilliant Radio 2 listeners will be with me every step of the way, and their encouragement and support will shove me up every incline and pull me through my toughest moments."
This year marks the 40th anniversary of Pudsey Bear as the symbol of Children in Need. Sara Cox emphasized the importance of raising funds for children in need on this special occasion.
"Pudsey has been part of Children in Need for 40 years this year, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by helping raise much-needed funds for children who need it most."
Sara Cox is undertaking a 135-mile marathon challenge across Northern England to raise vital funds for Children In Need, inspiring many with her commitment and the iconic Pudsey Bear symbol.
