The Belleville Senators wrapped up their three-game weekend hosting the Laval Rocket, falling 3-2 in a competitive match. Hunter Shepard delivered an impressive 43-save performance, keeping the Senators in the contest throughout.
Laval began aggressively, firing 23 shots in the opening period. Their pressure paid off early when Nate Clurman assisted Alex Belzile’s shot, which was deflected to Filip Mesar. Mesar scored his second goal of the season, giving Laval a 1-0 advantage.
The Senators tied the game 1-1 just as their power play ended. Jake Chiasson showed great patience, creating space for Lassi Thomson, who fired a one-timer past Rocket goalie Kaapo Kähkönen.
Early in the second frame, Belleville capitalized on a power play. Carter Yakemchuk’s point shot combined with Xavier Bourgault’s precise pass set up Arthur Kaliyev, who scored his second consecutive game-winning goal to push the Senators ahead 2-1.
The Rocket responded quickly. Marc Del Gaizo found Jared Davidson, whose well-placed shot beat Shepard on the short side, knotting the game at 2-2.
The final period saw little action on the scoreboard until Laval pulled ahead with less than five minutes remaining, securing the 3-2 victory.
