M25 completely shut after air ambulance called to 'multi-vehicle' crash - recap

M25 Completely Shut After Multi-Vehicle Crash

There were significant delays for drivers after a multi-vehicle crash on the M25. National Highways now reports that three out of four lanes are open, with delays of about 20 minutes and approximately four miles of slow-moving traffic remaining.

Traffic Conditions and Impact

Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported:

Severe delays and one lane closed due to multi-vehicle accident on M25 anticlockwise between J25 A10 Great Cambridge Road (Enfield) and J24 A111 Stagg Hill (Potters Bar). Congestion extends to J26 (Waltham Abbey).

Traffic is also slow on the clockwise side as motorists slow down to observe the crash. Alternative routes through Enfield and Edmonton, including the North Circular around the Great Cambridge Interchange, are congested as drivers try to avoid the closure.

Official Statements and Actions

National Highways clarified the crash was “not as serious as initially feared,” but delays persist. They tweeted:

#M25 is CLOSED anticlockwise between J25 (#WalthamCross) and J23 (#PottersBar) due to a collision. Delays of 60 mins, 4 miles of congestion. The injury is not as serious as initially feared.

The clockwise M25 between J23 (#A1M) and J25 is now open. However, the anti-clockwise carriageway remains closed.

National Highways also indicated that an air ambulance was called to the scene. Both carriageways were affected with closures to allow for the air ambulance’s arrival. Travelers are advised to plan ahead if traveling in the area this afternoon.

Summary

The M25 experienced major traffic disruptions following a multi-vehicle crash, but recovery efforts have partially restored flow, with emergency response ongoing.
