Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster have two children together, but when they first met in the 1990s, Rod was hesitant about becoming a father again. Penny, 54, recently opened up about a difficult time during their early years as parents.
Penny and the 80-year-old Rod celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary earlier this year. They met in 1999, and their relationship grew over time. Rod proposed in 2005 during a romantic trip to Paris, and they married in 2007 in a lavish ceremony at the medieval monastery La Cervara in Portofino, Italy.
The couple has two sons, Alastair and Aiden. After their eldest son was born, Rod named his tour the Alastair Wallace Stewart Tour, scheduling flights around the baby’s naps.
During the tour, Penny kept Alastair’s Moses basket beside their bed, but his colic caused her great distress. In her book Someone Like Me, Penny recalled:
“Every afternoon at exactly 4pm he’d give a shrill scream that sounded as though he was dying. In the end the only thing that would calm him was the sound of Rod’s Great American Songbook collection gently playing. I can only think that hearing it took Alastair back to the security of the womb, as I’d been in the studio to listen to Rod recording when I’d been pregnant.”
Rod adapted his tour schedule to accommodate their son’s routine, showing how family priorities influenced his professional life.
