Avalanche Journal: Fans aren’t only ones excited to meet Rebecca Yarros at ‘Fourth Wing’ night

Avalanche Journal: Excitement Grows Around 'Fourth Wing' Night

Brock Nelson discovered Violet Sorrengail while browsing in a Toronto bookstore alongside former New York Islanders teammate Matt Martin. Meanwhile, Scott Wedgewood became captivated by the world-building and dragon-riding romantasy of Fourth Wing during a drive from Michigan to Denver.

More than 2,500 fans bought special tickets for Fourth Wing night at Ball Arena on Thursday, eager to celebrate Rebecca Yarros’ debut novel in the Empyrean series.

“I’m pumped for that night, the jersey, having Rebecca there,” Nelson said. “I’m hoping I get to meet her. It’s cool to have that connection now. Last year, I remember somebody was like, ‘Hey, did you see the author of ‘Fourth Wing’ was at one of your games?’ I had no idea. Then I saw that she’s a huge fan. Fast forward to now with ‘Fourth Wing’ night, and it’s pretty cool.”

Living in Colorado Springs, Yarros balances her writing career with her life as a hockey mom. Her family supports the Avalanche, although her husband, an East Coast native, grew up as a Rangers fan.

Last season, the couple attended a game in Denver where a discussion arose about Rebecca potentially throwing out the first pitch at Fenway Park.
