Curling clubs each get nearly $53K through Scotties Tournament of Hearts

Curling Clubs Receive Nearly $53K Each from Scotties Tournament of Hearts

THUNDER BAY – Three local curling clubs received significant financial support from the recent Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Proceeds from the 50/50 draw at the national women’s curling championship, combined with 10% of ticket sales from the Fort William Gardens event, were awarded to the Kakabeka Falls Curling Club, the Port Arthur Curling Centre, and the Fort William Curling Club.

Each club was given a cheque for $52,940, designated to support the growth of curling in Thunder Bay.

Organizers Highlight the Impact

Diane Imrie, co-chair of the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts local organizing committee, described the distribution as a win-win situation.

“Each club will get just under $53,000, which will go a long way in helping curling at the grassroots level. We had a great curling event and a legacy of the event is there.”

Giving Back to the Curling Community

Co-chair Rick Lang, a two-time world champion, emphasized the importance of supporting local clubs, especially in times when funding is difficult to secure.

“Curling’s been a part of my life for more years than I want to know and the curling community in Thunder Bay has been really good to me. I think this is a chance to volunteer and pay back the community, and really help the clubs out.”

This contribution reflects the organizers' commitment to fostering curling at the grassroots level in Thunder Bay.

Author's summary: The Scotties Tournament of Hearts generated nearly $53,000 for each of three Thunder Bay curling clubs, boosting local support and nurturing grassroots growth in the sport.
