Alta Journal’s California Bestsellers List (November 6, 2025)

This week’s bestselling books include Twice by Mitch Albom, The God of the Woods by Liz Moore, and The Black Wolf by Louise Penny. Alta Journal, in partnership with the California Independent Booksellers Alliance, presents the top titles at independent bookstores across Northern and Southern California for the week ending November 2, 2025.

Authors and Titles in Focus

Journalists turned authors are prominent on this week’s bestseller list. In Kingmaker, British reporter Sonia Purnell explores the complex life of political activist and socialite Pamela Harriman. While often known as Winston Churchill’s daughter-in-law, Harriman also proved to be a skilled diplomat and determined woman.

“Harriman was also a shrewd diplomat and an ambitious woman, as Purnell makes clear in the biography.”

Another standout is music writer and filmmaker Cameron Crowe, who shares his memoir The Uncool. Crowe, the inspiration behind the 2000 film Almost Famous, reflects on his childhood in Palm Springs and his experiences touring with legendary musicians like Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin.
