Incline Village, a community in Lake Tahoe known for its extremely conservative billionaires, is experiencing serious plumbing issues leading to potential water contamination. According to SFGate, the Incline Village General Improvement District (IVGID) issued a notice on November 3 warning residents of an incident that caused a pressure loss in the water distribution system.
This loss of pressure may have allowed contaminants, including fecal matter and disease-causing organisms, to enter the local water supply. In simpler terms, the water used by residents, including billionaires, might be contaminated with harmful bacteria.
Residents in the affected area were instructed to boil their water for at least three minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, or even brushing their teeth. The advisory highlighted the risk of untreated water containing parasites, viruses, and bacteria that could cause nausea, diarrhea, and other health issues.
These septic problems are reminiscent of a similar incident this past summer, when a billionaire enclave in Miami pressured Republican politicians to impact a nearby municipality’s handling of sewage. Such events highlight ongoing infrastructure challenges in affluent communities.
IVGID officials emphasized that the contamination warning is a precautionary measure. There is currently no confirmed evidence that fecal matter has entered the water supply.
“Event that resulted in loss of pressure in the distribution system could have allowed contaminants, including fecal matter and disease-causing organisms, into the local water supply.”
“Residents in the affected area were told to boil their water for at least three minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, or even brushing their teeth.”
Sales of bottled water brands like Saratoga Springs are expected to rise among residents.
