Conrad Thompson of AdFreeShows.com spoke to former WWE creative team member Andrew Goldstein for The Insiders podcast, revealing how Dusty Rhodes came up with the MVP gimmick.
According to Goldstein, an NFL star inspired the idea for the MVP character. He explained that Dusty Rhodes would often come up with gimmicks and characters for stars in developmental.
“You could just see the wheel spinning, I mean, the best example of that is MVP”
MVP was in developmental at the time, doing a version of his character, but it was rudimentary. Goldstein, an Eagles fan, noted that it was the time when the Eagles had Terrell Owens, which likely influenced the creation of the MVP character.
