Jonathan Uptin, the sports anchor for Nine News Queensland, and Amber Sherlock, a news and weather presenter in Sydney, are among roughly 50 employees facing job cuts in Nine’s streaming and broadcast division.
Amber Sherlock was absent during the latest evening news broadcast, with Sophie Walsh stepping in as her replacement. Sherlock joined Nine in 2007, initially working as Today’s business reporter before becoming a weekend anchor. Since 2011, she served as a news anchor and weather presenter for Nine News Sydney.
After 31 years with Nine, Jonathan Uptin was also made redundant. Throughout his tenure, he worked in multiple locations including Sydney, Newcastle, Darwin, and Queensland. In early 2023, he took over as the weeknight sports presenter in Queensland, succeeding Wally Lewis.
"At one stage, during Karl Stefanovic’s elongated contract negotiations, he was floated as a possible replacement for the Today role."
Both presenters have played significant roles within their respective teams, marking the end of long careers at Nine.
Nine’s streaming and broadcast division is undergoing considerable restructuring, resulting in the loss of longstanding and prominent presenters like Jonathan Uptin and Amber Sherlock.
