Teachers Union Calls for More Support Staff for School Safety

New, stricter rules on school safety came into effect this summer, but a Swedish Radio investigation found that unauthorized people can still enter and move around many Swedish schools.

However, schools that have hired "visitor hosts" have seen improved safety, according to the Swedish Teachers' Union, which would like to see more such hosts in Swedish schools.

"The backbone of the schools are the teachers, but teachers are not supposed to be security guards. We need more support staff to ensure that people are safe,"

says Robin Smith, deputy chairman of the Swedish Teachers' Union.

The union's proposal aims to address the issue of school safety by providing additional support staff, rather than relying on teachers to fulfill security roles.

Author's summary: Teachers union seeks more support staff for school safety.
