Galveston officials are planning to construct a pump station at the corner of Bayou Shore and South Shore drives on English Bayou.
The city will begin building the new water pump station in November, after delays due to struggles in obtaining easements and coordinating with utility providers.
The construction is estimated to take up to 30 months, but with the November start date, the city has only about 26 months to complete the project before a state-mandated deadline.
If the deadline is missed, the city would be required to return a $54.31 million grant, which was awarded by the Texas General Land Office in May 2021.
The city has already started using the grant.
The grant was awarded for the project, and the city is at risk of losing it if the deadline is not met.
