A 1-in-20-million calico lobster, nicknamed Jackie, has made her debut at Northeastern University's Marine Science Center in Nahant, Massachusetts.
Jackie owes her unique orange and black colors to a mixture of chemical compounds. She was caught off the coast of Massachusetts by lobsterman Mike Tufts.
Jackie is even more rare than the center's other recent star, Neptune the blue lobster, with odds of about one-in-20 million, according to Sierra Munoz, Marine Science Center outreach coordinator.
The odds of catching a blue lobster like Neptune are about one-in-two million. Jackie is joining other nature's Halloween ambassadors, such as spiders, bats, and oozing fungi.
