A state-record fish was caught by Caleb Bell, certified by Tennessee officials as an Alabama bass, a subspecies of spotted bass considered invasive in Tennessee.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency confirmed the species in a lab and recognized the new state-record bass.
“Unfortunately, Alabama Bass are an invasive species that was introduced illegally in Tennessee,”
The record-breaking bass weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces, caught from Parksville Reservoir in Polk County, surpassing the previous record by 3 ounces.
