Gaston, Tanglewood’s longtime superintendent of grounds, is the last link to the music center's pre-orchestra days, having been hired in 1928.
At that time, Tanglewood was the home of Miss Mary Aspinwall Tappan, who had lived there since Civil War days, and was owned by Gorman Brooks of Boston.
Mr. Gaston was promoted to superintendent of the grounds in 1931, a post from which he plans to retire at the end of the month.
He is the only member of the present staff who worked on the estate when it was a private home.
